‘Self portrait at 34’ was the first self portrait painted since the nineteen seventies, with one exception in the mid eighties. It shows a confident image of the a still young man, at his easel; the painting was bought by an old friend, Julie Bennett ,who moved to Hammersmith at this time. The artist was in good spirits at the time, when he had several commissions. One of which was a teaching commission at Wormwood Scrubs Prison teaching ‘mural’ painting to the prisoners serving life sentences. ‘Wormwood Scrubs Mural’ is an example of the work the artist and the inmates created. The artist also taught ‘life drawing‘ in Gillingham, Kent as well as working with people with learning disabilities.
